Why Thailand Is the World’s Best Golf Holiday Destination

Championship courses, personal caddies, and 4-star luxury — at a fraction of the price you’d pay anywhere else.

Thailand has earned its reputation as Asia’s premier golf destination, and for good reason.

With over 250 golf courses spread across the country, from the tropical island layouts of Phuket to the mountain-backed fairways of Chiang Mai , there is no shortage of world-class golf on offer.

What sets a Thailand golf holiday apart from destinations like Bali, Vietnam, or even Australia is the combination of quality and value.

A round at a championship course like Red Mountain in Phuket or Black Mountain in Hua Hin comes with a personal caddie, a golf cart, and green fees that rarely exceed $150 AUD.

The same standard of course in Australia or Europe would cost you three times that, without the caddie.

Then there’s the hospitality. Every course provides a caddie who carries your bag, reads the greens, and keeps your game on track.

Many of these caddies have been working the same course for years and know every break, every slope, and every club selection better than any GPS device.

Tipping is customary, around 300–500 Thai Baht ($15–25 AUD) per round, and it’s one of the small details that makes golfing in Thailand feel genuinely premium.

Beyond the golf, Thailand delivers in every other category that matters to travelling golfers.

Direct flights from Australia land in Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. Accommodation ranges from boutique 3-star hotels to internationally branded 5-star resorts, most priced well below their equivalents in Europe or the Middle East.

And the food from streetside pad thai to fine-dining rooftop restaurants is consistently outstanding and remarkably affordable.

Top Golf Courses in Thailand

The courses featured in our packages — each one personally played and recommended.

Red Mountain Golf Club

Phuket

Built in the dramatic landscape of a former tin mine, Red Mountain is widely considered the most spectacular golf course in Phuket. Deep ravines, jungle-framed fairways, and elevated tees create a course that is as visually stunning as it is challenging. This is the signature round on our Phuket Golf Package.

Best Time to Play Golf in Thailand

Thailand is a year-round golf destination — but some months are better than others.

Unlike destinations that shut down for winter, Thailand's tropical climate means you can play golf 365 days a year. The experience varies by season and region — here is what to expect.

Peak Season

November – February

Cool & Dry

The best weather across all regions. Temperatures sit between 25–32°C with low humidity and virtually no rain. This is peak season for Australian golfers escaping summer, so book early — courses and hotels fill fast. Green fees are at their highest but still excellent value compared to Australian courses.

Shoulder Season

March – May

Hot & Dry

The hottest months, with temperatures reaching 35–38°C in Bangkok and Pattaya. Early morning tee times are essential. The upside: fewer crowds, lower hotel rates, and courses in prime condition. Chiang Mai is the best pick for this period — cooler mountain air makes a real difference.

Low Season

June – October

Wet Season

Afternoon showers are common, but mornings are often clear. Smart golfers take advantage of 30–40% lower green fees and hotel rates. Rain rarely washes out a full day. Hua Hin receives less rainfall than other regions, making it the best wet-season choice.

Thailand Golf Holiday — FAQ

Golf Corner Thailand packages start from $1,275 AUD per person twin share. This includes 4-star accommodation, daily breakfast, championship golf with green fees, cart and caddie, plus all airport and course transfers. Prices vary by destination and season — Hua Hin packages tend to be the most affordable, while Phuket and escorted tours are priced slightly higher.

The top golf courses in Phuket are Red Mountain Golf Club, Blue Canyon Country Club (Canyon Course), Laguna Golf Phuket, Loch Palm Golf Club, and Aquella Golf & Country Club. Red Mountain is widely regarded as the most spectacular course on the island, while Blue Canyon is the most prestigious — it hosted Tiger Woods at the Johnnie Walker Classic in 1998.

The peak season is November to February when temperatures sit between 25–32°C and rainfall is minimal. The shoulder season (March–May) offers lower prices but higher temperatures. The wet season (June–October) brings afternoon showers but significantly reduced green fees — mornings are often clear enough for a full round.

Most golfers bring their own clubs in a golf travel bag. All major Thai courses offer club rental, but quality varies and left-handed sets are limited. We recommend a hard-case travel bag for protection during flights.

The standard tip is 300–500 Thai Baht (approximately $15–25 AUD) per round. If your caddie provides exceptional service — good reads, helpful club selection — tipping at the higher end is appreciated. Caddie tips are not included in package prices.

Pattaya is the most popular choice for group trips, combining championship courses with vibrant nightlife. Phuket suits groups wanting a resort experience with beaches and island tours. Hua Hin offers excellent golf in a quieter, more relaxed setting.

Yes. Every Golf Corner package can be tailored to your group's requirements. Swap courses, extend your stay, add sightseeing tours, combine destinations, or adjust accommodation. Contact us with your preferences and we will build a package to suit.

International airfares are not included — this gives you the flexibility to book flights using points, choose your preferred airline, or combine your golf trip with other travel. All airport transfers within Thailand are included in every package.
